Oliver "Pete" Dewayne Short, 56, of Dillwyn, died June 11, 2017.  He was born July 2, 1960, the only son of the late James and Lottie Short.

He is survived by his daughter Victoria Terrell and her husband Levi, one grandson Zechariah, and his son Cody Short.  Two sisters, Charlene Toney and late husband Billy, Doralease Jackson and husband Lenwood, brother in law Clarence Walters as well as nieces, nephews and their families and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Pete was also preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Walters.

A member of the United States Coast Guard, Pete served as a Boatswain's Mate 3rd class, aboard a 41' patrol boat out of Cape Charles, VA Coast Guard Station.  This was a career he came to hold very dear, with memories lasting a lifetime.  He went on to work at Nottoway Correctional Center and served as a Sargent for the Piedmont Regional Jail.  Last but not least, he was a Foreman for Alberene Soapstone, in Schuyler and Buckingham Slate. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed his time on a bowling league, watching NASCAR, hunting and fishing.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nursing staff of Lynchburg General Hospital, Guggenheimer Heath & Rehab and Farmville Rehab Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
