William Snead Dandridge, 80, of Dillwyn, went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2023. He was born November 16, 1942 in Powhatan County, a son of the late Earl Madison and Dorothy Martin Dandridge. Snead was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara England Dandridge.
Snead retired as a wastewater treatment plant operator at Buckingham Correctional Center. Whatever Snead set his mind to, he mastered. He lived a simple life, and enjoyed his family and friends. His famous horseshoe tournaments were an annual event that many looked forward to attending. A champion pool player, he entered many tournaments and most recently played in Las Vegas. Snead will also be remembered as a huge NASCAR fan and a lover of life.
Snead is survived by his brothers, Gene N. Dandridge and Earl I. Dandridge and wife, Connie; children, William S. “Billy” Dandridge, Jr. and wife, Kim, John D. Dandridge and wife, Amy and Tammy Hellard and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Michael R. Dandridge, William R. Dandridge, James M. Dandridge, J. Dallas Dandridge and wife, Emily, Jacob Dandridge, Chelsea Dandridge, Phillip Dandridge, Mathew Mills and wife, Miranda, Scott Mills and wife, Andrea, Amy Hester and husband, Joe, Josh Branch, William Stone, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Snead was also preceded in death by sister, Shirley D. Allday; sons, Earl R. Dandridge, Phillip S. Dandridge, Cecil Branch, and Raymond Stone, and grandson, Lance E. Dandridge.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Buckingham Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. the day of the funeral.
