Waverly Elwood Ragland

Waverly Elwood Ragland, 79 of Buckingham passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020. 

He was born October 21, 1940 in the Manteo area of Buckingham, Virginia, a son of the late Clarence Elwood Ragland and Myrtle Florence (Branch) Ragland.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Marian Snead Ragland; he is survived by:  a son, Kenneth Waverly (Brute) Ragland and wife Sherry of Buckingham; a daughter Crystal Ragland Thibault and husband Doug of Yonkers, New York; two granddaughters Leanne Ragland (Mike) of Lynchburg and Rebecca Ragland (Hunter) of Buckingham; his sister-in-laws Shirly Krohn, Agnes Snead and Betty Snead; two cousins that were like sisters, Gail Branch and Madeline Branch, and a devoted and loving neighborhood of family and friends.

He retired from CSX Transportation Railroad after  31 years in 2002.  He loved farming, his animals and his most recent beloved dog Bandit.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2020 at Dunkum’s  Funeral Home Dillwyn, VA.

A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland United Methodist Church by the Reverend George Schaefer and the Reverend Billy Swan.
