Violet Dunkum Flippen

Violet Dunkum Flippen, 89, of New Canton, passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.  Violet was born August 6, 1932 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Joshua Elijah and Annie Newton Dunkum.  She was married 40 years to the late Artie Henderson Flippen. She was an active member of Arvon Baptist Church for many years.

Violet is survived by two daughters, Karen Chance and Kim Bryant and husband, Lewis; two sons, Kerry Flippen and wife, Frances and Kevin Flippen and wife, Candie; sister,  Gay D. Bartlett; two brothers,  Marvin H. Dunkum Sr. and wife Elizabeth and Thomas Ray Dunkum and wife Arlene; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren and numerous other extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Violet was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Jesse Chance.

The family wishes to thank the staff of The Woodlands for the care given their mother during her time there.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 3 p.m. in the Arvon Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department.
