Stephen Wayne Taylor, Sr., 69, of Arvonia, passed peacefully Monday, December 16, 2024.
He was born in Nelson County on October 16, 1955 and then moved to Dillwyn, straight-out of high school and began working in construction. He was employed 11 year by Stackhouse, 11 years by C. W. Wright, 5 years by Woodlawn and retired after working for Beetle Tapscott.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, George Edmond and Barbara Charlton Taylor and sister, Patricia D. “Pat” Taylor.
Stephen is survived by two brothers, George “Allen” Taylor and William “Craig” Taylor (Carolyn); wife, Susan Wood Taylor; three children Melissa T. Miller (Terry) of Dillwyn, Tracy Taylor of Buckingham and Stephen W. Taylor, Jr. of Farmville; eight grandchildren, DeAndre (Meagan), Trey, Natalie, Bryce, Nichlaus, Harmony, Hope, and Noah; two bonus grandchildren, Emma and Jayda; two great-grandchildren, Amiyah and Alijah and a host of nieces and nephews.
One of Stephen’s favorite things he looked forward to was watching Gunsmoke every day with his son-in-law, Terry. He had a passion for classic cars. He owned a 1978 King Cobra and a 1968 Mustang GT. Stephen also had a 1960 International pickup truck that he called “Taylor’s Special”. The last vehicle that was very special to him was his 1994 Ford F-150. In his downtime he loved working on tractors and attending truck and tractor pulls and mud bog competitions.
Graveside Service will be held, Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Hanes Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home.
