Stella “Marie” Wooten Couch went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2023. Her wishes were honored as she passed away at home surrounded by love.
Marie was born in Nelson County on March 13, 1949, daughter of the late Herman Wooten and Gracie Branch Wooten. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, Paul Couch, whom she had been a dedicated caregiver to for many years. They had a love many of us can only dream of.
Marie retired from Uniroyal where she spent many years and developed many great friendships. She enjoyed visits with her friends and neighbors. Even on her hardest days, she could still bring a smile to your face. She also enjoyed practical jokes.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Kathy Burgess of Buckingham; Amanda (Clifton) Maxey of Buckingham. She had four granddaughters who were her world; Alexis (Justin) Baird of Buckingham, Abigail Burgess of Buckingham, Olivia Maxey of Buckingham and Alayna Maxey of Buckingham. She was also expecting her first great granddaughter in August, and she was looking forward to welcoming her. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother; Carolyn Herndon of Scottsville, Alice (Dabney) Palmore of Buckingham; Pamela (Samuel) Smith of Charlotte Court House and Kelvin “Clay” (Jennifer) Wooten of Buckingham. She also leaves behind her loyal dog Tobey.
She was preceded in death by not only her parents and her husband, but also suffered the loss of four brothers, one sister, and a nephew; Herman Wooten Jr., Charles Wooten, Wayne Wooten, Albert “Hayes” Wooten, Gracie “Jeanette” Wooten Gunter and a loving nephew Steven Smith.
A family night will be held on May 18, 2023 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home in Dillwyn.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
