Sara Susan Scott Mayo, 72, passed peacefully on May 1, 2021. She was born August 1, 1948 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Charles and Sara Elizabeth Scott. Sara worked for Blue Ridge Hospital for 33 years. She had a love of gardening and church. Sara loved all that came into her life and cherished her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was the widow of George Wesley Mayo Jr.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Johnny, Floyd, Henry, Steve and Robert Scott.
Sara is survived by her children, Steven Wayne Mayo and his wife, Penny; Elizabeth “Scotty” Chrismer and husband, Daniel and George Wesley Mayo and husband, Jeff Stoddard; two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Mary Anne Yates; three brothers, Leonard, Bobby and James Scott; grandchildren, Brandon Snoddy and wife Brittany, Kyle Mayo and wife Chelsea, David Wade Haislip, Sara Mayo and fiancé Bryan; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Isabella, Brianna and Emma and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for the Blue Ridge Chapter of the M S Society and the Center for Acute Hospice Care.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 6 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home.
