Robert “Bobby” Scott Estes, 89, of Dillwyn, passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2026. He was the son of the late Walter and Annie Estes of Fredericksburg.
Bob was born in Fredericksburg. After graduating from James Monroe High School he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in California. Upon returning to Fredericksburg, he won a recording contract in Nashville. After deciding to stay in his home town, he formed "The Night Life" band with several of his lifelong friends. He accepted Jesus Christ into his life in 1984; he and Tommy Moore created their gospel group, The Goldmine Singers. He loved music, especially bluegrass gospel. He enjoyed gathering with his fellow musicians with his beloved Martin guitar.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, four sisters, son David Mead, daughter Cathy Buchner and a grandson Robert.
He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Whorley Estes of Dillwyn, daughters: Donna S. Allen ( Neal ) of Dillwyn, Sherry Isaacs (Ray) of Fredericksburg; sons, George Estes ( Mona ) of Fredericksburg and Kevin Capach ( Samantha ) of Florida: 33 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren. He also left behind his two faithful companions, Abby and Mia the family dogs.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Amedisys Hospice and his caretaker Mrs. Dee.
A celebration of life service will be Sunday, July 19, 2026 at 2pm at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
