Renita Jane (Harris) Toney

Renita Harris Toney, 65, of Troy, passed peacefully on October 13, 2023.  She was born June 8, 1958, the oldest daughter of the late John Morgan Harris, Sr. and Marjorie Dunning Harris.  Providing care and compassion was an integral part of Renita’s nature and led her to a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She was employed by the Virginia Department of Corrections currently at the Fluvanna Correctional Center. The only thing that rivaled her love of nursing was her love for her grandchildren.

Renita is survived by her partner of 26 years, Floyd Carlisle of Troy; two sons Stephen Toney (Tamra) of Buckingham and Claude Toney (Stacey) of Charlottesville; brothers Roger, John and Robert Harris all of Buckingham; grandchildren, Jakob, Sienna and Ariana Toney, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister, Varalyn H. Carter

Renita’s family would like to express gratitude to the staff of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and the Laurels of Charlottesville for the care provided to her as well as the compassion shown to her family.

Family will receive friends on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
