Renee Whaley Smith

Renee Whaley Smith, 61, of Cumberland passed peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 1, 2026.  She was born January 7th, 1964, a daughter of Loy and Geraldine Whaley. She retired as an employee of the Virginia Department of Corrections, all spent at the Virginia Correctional Center for Women. 

She will be remembered as a kind and loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother. Renee is survived by husband Dennis S. Smith; her two sons, Nicholas  S. Justus (Sarie) and G. Everett Justus (Sara); brother, Gary Whaley (June); and two grandchildren, Jesse and Ryley; and many extended family and friends. Renee was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Whaley and her father, Loy Whaley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 2 p.m. in the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment to follow is the Jones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
