Pauline Shumaker Rhymer

Pauline Shumaker Rhymer, 81, of Dillwyn, passed peacefully while surrounded by family on June 26, 2023.  She was born November 2, 1941 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Jessie “Buster” and Lottie Shumaker.  Pauline retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation.  Pauline was one of ten children and she loved spending time with her family, as her daughters and grandchildren were added to her family she taught them card games.  So many nights were enjoyed playing cards in each other’s homes.

Pauline is preceded in death by siblings, Jesse, Raymond “Dyches”, Julian “Mutt”, Emma Jane, and Peggy Ann.

Pauline is survived by her daughters, Cindy Layne and her husband, T.W. “Stretch” Layne and Kim Taylor; grandchildren, Jennifer Davis and Branson Layne; devoted nephews, Walt Robinson and his wife Mary Ann and children, Marisa and Mason (Emma) and Michael Shumaker (Sarah); stepsons that she loved as her own, Waylon “Babe” Rhymer and Randy Rhymer and their families; siblings, Georgie Browning, Daisy Robinson, Doris Rush (Mac) and Bruce Shumaker (Shirley) and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 2 p.m.  at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn with interment in the Dillwyn Town Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would also like to extend appreciation to Centra Southside and Lynchburg General Hospital medical teams for the care shown to Pauline during her recent stays in those facilities.

In lieu of flowers donations in Pauline’s memory can be made to Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department.
