Marvin Harold Dunkum, Sr., 95, of Farmville and formerly a life-long resident of Buckingham passed peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026. Marvin was a 1949 graduate of Buckingham Central High School. After graduating Marvin went to work in a general store until 1956 when he married Elizabeth “DeeDee” Harris. He went into the Army and returned home from Germany in December 1957. Marvin sold insurance, worked for C. I. Poole, and then went on to become a banker, a career he continued until his retirement. Marvin was an active member of several civic organizations including the Dillwyn Masonic Lodge #315 and the Farmville Exchange Club. As an active member of Rocky Mt. United Methodist Church, he was a member of the choir, the United Methodist Men and held many other positions in the church.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Elizabeth “DeeDee” Dunkum; sons, Marvin Dunkum, Jr. (Sharon) and Darrell Dunkum; grandchildren, Crystal Richardson, Tabby Meachum (Joey), Mackenzie Gormus (Brett), Daniel Dunkum, and Shawn Dunkum; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, Zoey, Kassandra, Jeremiah, Edward, and Jacob. Marvin is also survived by his brother, Thomas Dunkum (Arlene) and sister, Gay Dunkum Bartlett.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 12 noon in the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment immediately following in the Rocky Mt. Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
