Marjorie Sloan, 85, of Avon, Illinois and formerly of Buckingham, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020, 12:41 p.m. at her home. She was born Sunday, June 24, 1934 in Dillwyn, the daughter of George and Emma (Murphy) Moss. She married Jack Bryant and later married Richard Sloan, both preceded her in death.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Venece (Nick) Sutton of Buckingham, Joan (Chance) Ray of Abingdon, Illinois, Tim (Theresa) Bryant of Dillwyn, and Theresa (P.B.) Layman of Dillwyn; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, and 2 special grandchildren; siblings, Frances Spain of Rockville, Ann (Bernard) McKay of Richmond and Edna (Harry) Davis of Scottsville and a special friend, Pansy Sloan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a son, Raymond Bryant, a brother, Franklin Moss and a sister, Mary Duty.
Marjorie was a great baker and was known for her German chocolate cake. She cared for the kids of the Avon community for over 30 years. She loved her yardwork and her flowers, and it showed by how perfect it was when you drove by. She was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church.
Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private burial will be held in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Avon United Methodist Church, P O Box 349, Avon, IL 61415. Dunkum Funeral Home is overseeing the local arrangements.
