Marion Gallagher Halbohn passed away peacefully on June 10, 2020 at Hickory Hill Retirement Community in Burkeville. She was born March 8, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to the late John Gallagher and Jean McCulloch Gallagher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Vincent Halbohn. She was also preceded in death by a very special cousin, Isabella Shahin.
She was an avid lover of the outdoors and especially loved working in her flower garden and doing yard work up until she was no longer able to do so. She loved all of God’s animals and enjoyed being surrounded by nature. She was especially fond of children and she cherished all children no matter who they were. They brought such joy into her life. She was an extremely loving person and loved being around her family and friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Jean Mason of Arvonia and Mary Martin of Vero Beach, Florida; children, Lee Halbohn (Pat), of Arvonia, Keith Halbohn (Betty) , of Arvonia and Marion Monopoli (Rob) of Staunton; grandchildren, Crystal Shoaf (Bryan), Kimberly Halbohn (Jason), Bonnie Martin (Tommy), Lenny Monopoli (Melanie), Amber Monopoli (Nate), Stephanie Monopoli-Price (Hunter), John Monopoli, and Eric Clark; great-grandchildren, Brian Keith Baird (Sydney), Scott Shoaf, Makayla Fletcher, Jayde Fletcher, Aaron Martin, Tyler Martin, Lannie Erke, Lailah Monopoli, Ava Monopoli, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held June 16, 2020 from 2 until 7 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Virginia or the Alzheimer’s Association of Virginia.
