Lou Woodson Obituary

Lou Ellen Dunivan Woodson, 92, of New Canton passed peacefully on March 13, 2020. Born January 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harvey “Babe” and Viola Dunivan.

On February 20, 1950 she married the love of her life, William Franklin Woodson. They were blessed with a marriage spanning 69 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Woodson Hamby (Mike); son, Roger Keith Woodson; four grandchildren, Clint Hamby (Jennifer), Jennifer Duty (Jeff), Derek Woodson and Chad Woodson; three great-grandchildren, Clay Allen-Hamby, Annalee Duty and James Duty; two step-great grandchildren, Nathan Parks and Audrey Parks; special family members, Rusty Branch and Natalie Hintz; brother, Howard Dunivan (Christine), sister-in-law, Edith Evans and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death her husband, William and grandson, Brendan “Scott” Hamby.

Ellen was a faithful follower of Christ who served Buckingham Baptist Church for most of her life.  She taught Sunday school classes, G.A.s, worked on various committees and was a member of the choir.  Her love for music was evident by her nickname, “Mother Maybelle”.  She, Doris Allen and a host of friends enjoyed a music ministry of 15 years at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home.  She sang and played guitar every chance she got and had many gatherings of musicians at their home.  She taught her children and grandchildren to play and she saw that each child, grandchild, and great grandchild was given their first guitar.

She always taught to love your neighbor as yourself.  She and William’s home was always open to the neighborhood children where many meals were shared with children sitting around the table! Her home was a place where God’s love was always on display, where each lived for the other and all lived for God.

Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Proverbs 31:2.
