John McAllister Obituary

John Anderson McAllister, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, surrounded by his family. John grew up in Caroline County, as a boy his nickname was “Peanut”. He lived a full and Godly life, defined by his devotion to his family and his strong faith in God.

John retired from Bear Island Paper Company as a respected supervisor of Wastewater Treatment for 34 years. His coworkers affectionately called him “Big John”.

John was a loving husband and devoted fathers who cherished spending time with his family. Known for his wisdom and guidance, he served as a guiding light to countless people who looked to him for advice. He was loved by members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he and his wife worshipped and he served as a deacon. He will be greatly missed there.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Brenda Y. McAllister and his four children, Chris McAllister (Laren); Ami McAllister Kader, Brian Cook (Crystal), and Jeff Cook (Melissa). He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many family members and especially his loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Denise Lee Bohon McAllister; his parents, Ryland and Bertie McAllister, his sisters, Betty McAllister, Elizabeth Clark, and Nettie Mae Hinkle; his brother, William McAllister, his son-in-law, Eric Kader, and his granddaughter, Dixie Ray Kader.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, New Canton, with exact date to be determined.
