Aug, 7, 2024, “Johnny” John Randolph Martin was made whole and went to
abide with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Johnny was the son of the late
Annie Ruby Ayres and Clarence Isaac Martin of Trents Mill Road, born on
April 6, 1947, Survived by brothers Lewis Martin (Virgie) of Famville, Paul
Martin (Jeanette) of Trents Mill Road and sisters, “Marie” M Proffitt of
Arrington. and Frances M Grigsby of Cerro Gordo, NC. He was preceded in
death by his brothers, Lee Martin, Wilbert Martin, Thomas Earl Martin, Ray
Martin, sisters, Annie M Rippeon and Mae M Corum, and a granddaughter,
Janet Driver.
He was husband to Carolyn Marie Hartley for 54 years. They had 3 sons,
Jerry Martin (Kathy), Randy Martin (Martha) and Tommy Martin (Bonnie). He
was known as “Pops” to grandchildren Randy Jr., Aaron, Tyler, LJ, and Annie
Martin, four step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He had proudly retired working at VDOT after 32 years, mowing the grass
among his responsibilities. Johnny made many lifelong friends there. But
even in retirement you would find him always working around his yard at his
lifelong family home.
If he wasn’t mowing the grass or raking pine needles he would be working on
the lawn mower. He was not much on going out to crowded places and
entertaining himself with dinners, movies and vacations. But you could find
a big smile on his face at revving engines, favorite pets and visits with
family.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers during this time of his sickness
and in the time to come as we learn to move forward without him here.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. until time of service at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Baptist Church Building Fund.
