Jeffrey William Sweeney, age 54, of Buckingham, Virginia, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday March 18, 2023. Born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Jeff was the second of three sons brought into this world by the late Robert Thomas Sweeney and the late Marie Frances Bates Sweeney Heath.
Jeff was a fun-loving, good-hearted soul that never met a stranger and always looked for the good in people. In his youth, Jeff, equipped with the guidance and wisdom imparted to him by his father, Jeff enjoyed the outdoors in Wisconsin, Missouri, Massachusetts, and Virginia. Jeff loved being outdoors and was an exceptional fisherman. Catch and release was his policy unless he was bringing home dinner.
Jeff was a graduate of North Stafford High School in Stafford, Virginia after attending two other high schools in two different states. In high school Jeff excelled in auto body repair and painting, as well as many extracurricular activities.
Post-high school, Jeff attended community college and worked in many different areas. After moving to Richmond, Virginia in 1992 Jeff found his calling and passion in the restaurant kitchens of Richmond. Jeff learned from some of the best chefs the city had to offer and went on to become an exceptional and respected chef in some of the finest establishments. Jeff also enjoyed bringing his talents and creations home to share with family and friends, especially during the holidays.
Jeff also enjoyed spending time with his dog Angus, riding his dirt bike, and visiting with his neighbors. Jeff was preceded in death by his older brother Gregory Patrick and is survived by his younger brother Mark Robert, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jeff’s family would like to send a very heart-felt thank you to Jeff’s medical team at the University of Virginia Hospital for their perseverance, compassion, and incredible care they gave to Jeff. We would also like to send out a huge thank you to the Buckingham County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance and genuine care and compassion for a good guy in need of help. One more thank you goes to the Centra Hospice Team that was incredible in Jeff’s last days. We will be forever grateful for how you all cared for Jeff. Thank you.
There will be a memorial/celebration of Jeff’s life on Sunday April 30, 2023 at the VFW Hall Post #8446 in Buckingham, VA from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM and all that knew and cared for Jeff are invited and encouraged to attend.
