James William Scott

James William Scott, 83, of Dillwyn, passed peacefully at home with his wife at his side, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. He was a son of the late Butch and Sarah Goins Scott. James was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things that life offered; spending time family and friends, attending Cedar Baptist Church; enjoying being outdoors by cutting grass, fishing, and raising a garden and sharing the vegetables with others.

In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Mayo; brothers, Steve Scott, PeeWee Scott, Robert Scott, Floyd Scott, and Johnny Scott.

James is survived by his wife, Penny Scott;  children, Faye Scott, Steve (Shelby) Scott, Andy (Bonnie) Scott, Barbara Goode, Kelly Scott, and John Tackett; 17 grandchildren; 11 great, grandchildren;  two great, great, grandchildren;  sisters, Virginia Taylor and Mary Ann Yates; brothers, Leonard Scott and Bobbie Burton and many more family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on April 19, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church.
