Herbert Glover Wharam, Jr., 71, of Dillwyn passed unexpectedly at his home on October 1, 2025. He was the son of the late Herbert G. and Evelyn Wharam. Junior was retired from Virginia Power with 45+ years of employment. Junior was a lifelong resident of Buckingham County and served the residents beginning in 1991 as a volunteer firefighter with the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department and also as secretary for over 20 years. Junior was also a longtime volunteer with the Buckingham County Youth League, first as a coach and later as secretary.
Junior was a lifetime fan of any sport being played by a UVA team and all games played by the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling on cruises with Terry.
In addition to his parents, junior was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Hubert Stinson and stepbrother, Gordon Stinson.
Junior is survived by his loving wife, Terry F. Wharam; son, Brett Gormus and his wife, Mackenzie; grandson, Edward Franklin Gormus; sister, Becky Wharam; brother, Charles “Sammy” Wharam; stepsister, Debbie Pence (Steve); stepbrother, Jimmy Stinson (Roxanne); stepsister-in-law, Kathy Stinson; numerous cousins and his furbabies, Annabelle and Cozette.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Arvonia Memorial Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends at 1 p.m.
