Frances Moss Obituary

Frances Jeanette “Dee” Moss passed away peacefully January 10, 2024 in Dillwyn.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cosby M. Moss and mother, Gladys O. Moss, both of Dillwyn; sisters Mamie M. Cheseldine of Dillwyn and Edith M. Longest of Goochland; brother, Harry R. Moss of Richmond and nephew, Rondall B. Powers of San Diego.

She leaves behind two sisters, Vernelle M. Moss and Stella A. Moss, both of Dillwyn; brother, Raymond Moss and wife, Peggy of Charlotte, North Carolina and her brother Harry’s wife, Peggy Moore Moss of Richmond and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jeanette “Dee” moved to Richmond shortly after graduating and went to work for Bell Atlantic Telephone Company where she remained employed for 35 years.  She continued working for Bell Atlantic after moving back to her home in Buckingham, retiring in 1992. She was a generous and caring person, giving much of herself to those she loved.  After retirement, Dee was a regular fixture at Route 20 Market, filling in for her sister and nephew.  There she enjoyed getting to know the locals and making friends with many.  Dee didn’t have children of her own but she became a second mother to nieces and nephews who lived close by, never missing their school plays, graduations, ball games, horse shows, baptisms and the list goes on and on.

Dee was an accomplished seamstress but her chosen hobby was cross stitch, not just any cross stitch but advanced, intricate pieces of art.  Her signature cross stitch piece was one of the Lord’s Supper.  Everyone loved it so much that she ended up doing one for everyone who asked, which ended up consuming months and even years of time and effort.  She loved every minute of it, just knowing they would have something to remember her by.

The family wishes to thank Heritage Hall Nursing Home staff for the excellent care Dee received during her time there.

We will remember Dee, always, for her love, her kindness and overwhelming generosity.

Graveside service will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
