Elbon Booney Sprouse III of Dillwyn died Saturday, November 2, 2024.
E.B. was born to Elbon Booney Sprouse Jr. and Ruth Virginia Griffith Sprouse on February 12, 1944. He married Velma Jane Dunkum on November 2, 1962 in Oxford, North Carolina. E.B. entered into heaven on what would have been he and Velma's 62nd wedding anniversary. He graduated from Central High School in Buckingham County in 1962. After graduation, he went on to Nashville Diesel College and from there he went to work at Sprouse's Garage in Dillwyn as a diesel mechanic for 54 years. He was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, choir member and a faithful servant at Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed farming, tractors and nascar but most importantly, spending time with his family and being together at his family gatherings. His family says, "He had a huge heart and a warm, caring and compassionate personality."
He is preceded in death by his wife Velma Jane Sprouse and his beloved little dog, Delilah.
He is survived by his two daughters Stacy England (Kenny), and LaRue Sprouse. His five grandchildren, Rebekah Pope (Brian Jr), Samantha England, Kenneth England Jr (Megan), Harrison Caster, and Madeleine Caster. His six great-grandchildren, Charles Pope, Benjamin Pope, Levi Pope, Laine England, Archer Pope, and Estella England. His two sisters, Patricia Butcher and Bettye Ruth Newton. Along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family night will be held on Wednesday, November 6th from 6-8 pm at Dunkum Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 2pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church with graveside to follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
