David L. Midkiff departed this life on Saturday, March 21, 2026, with his family by his side.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Adams Midkiff; his parents, Ira E. Midkiff and Livvia Sharpe Midkiff; and his brother, Ira E. Midkiff Jr. (“Junior”).
He is survived by his son, David Wayne Midkiff, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl F. Midkiff; his daughter, Donna M. Haislip, and son-in-law, Joseph (“Joey”) W. Haislip; two grandsons, Justin S. Haislip and Colin G. Haislip; two granddaughters, Shelby M. Ferguson and her husband, Brandon Ferguson, and Lanie W. Midkiff; two great-grandchildren, Weston Haislip and Keegan N. Ferguson; his special pup, Tippy 2; and his special sister-in-law, Nancy Midkiff.
David was born and raised in Cumberland, Virginia. He met the love of his life early on and followed her brother into the electrical trade, beginning a lifelong career.
He worked for over 40 years as an electrician with Minter Electric Company of Richmond. Known as “Hoss” to his coworkers and many friends, David was respected for his hard work and dependable nature.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and a devoted supporter of the Earnhardt family, holding season tickets at both Charlotte and Richmond, where he and Mary enjoyed attending races together for many years. He also loved classic Western television shows such as Gunsmoke and Daniel Boone—though watching with him often meant hearing what would happen before it did.
David took great pride in keeping his vehicles spotless and his yard well maintained, something his neighbors knew well. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 27, 2026 at Jones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Thursday at Dunkum Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to your favorite charity or to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
