David M. Horton, 68, of Buckingham, passed safely into his Savior's arms May 28, 2023. David was born in Dutchess County, New York on March 31, 1955 to Elvin and Joan Horton, who predeceased him.
In 1977, David married Susan Lee; they were blessed to raise five children and one foster son together. David managed many children’s baseball teams for 17 years starting in 1976; served his volunteer fire department for 30 years; retiring as an EMTD in 2001 the same year he retired as a Rural Carrier.
After becoming disabled, David then ran a Children's Ministry and Community Outreach in upstate New York funding this ministry by collecting bottles and cans.
David was a gifted Carpenter and avid gardener. His main goals in life were to serve God, care for his family and his fellowman. He attained these goals superbly.
David will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan and their children here in Virginia, Abigail Toohey and her husband, Patrick, David Lee Horton, and Olivia Rose Horton, along with “Papa's 3” Aiden, Faith and Noah Toohey, his brother, Bruce Horton of Florida; brother in law, Everett Lee of Virginia; sister in law, Mary Jane Long, of Florida and his niece Dawn Barbee and her husband, Gary of Oklahoma, nephews Michael Kliemisch of Florida, Andrew Kliemisch and wife Tina of Alabama as well as many other friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Lee; brother in law Bob Long and sisters-in-law, Nancy Lee Kliemisch and Darlene Horton.
Memorial service conducted by Pastor Josh Morgan of First Baptist Church, Dillwyn, will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 5 p.m. at 67 High School Road, Buckingham, VA 23921. (Bring your own chair)
