Charles Albert “Charlie” Rush, adored grandfather, father, brother, uncle, and cherished
friend, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in Buckingham County, at the
age of 70.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia on January 30, 1954, to late Thomas Clyde and
Elsie Lann Rush. Charlie’s kind heart and smile meant he never met a stranger. He
loved being outdoors, playing with his grandchildren, and always sharing bits of wisdom
and life lessons to those around him. Charlie loved to garden, cook, and eat! His
profession was electrical distribution and was always recognized for his ability to solve
complex problems in a “tricky” outdoor environment to get the job done. He proudly
served for 2 years in the United States Marine Corps by volunteering shortly after his
older brother, Thomas Clyde “Toby” Rush Jr. was killed in combat in Vietnam.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Lann Rush, father, Thomas Clyde Rush Sr.,
brothers, Floyd and “Toby”, sisters, Marjorie, Patty, and Linda.
He is survived by his children’s mother, Irene Murphy Rush; siblings, Francis “Sissy”, and Dorothy; children,
Misty, Charles Jr., Brooke, and Morgan; grandchildren, Calem, Rylan, Skylar, Madison,
Drew, Savannah, and Briar.
The family will receive friends at Dunkum Funeral Home in Dillwyn, on Thursday, 26
September from 4-6 pm. Funeral service will be held at Dunkum Funeral Home on
Friday, 27 September at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment with Military Honors at the Rush Family
Cemetery on Miller Camp Road.
