Carolyn Putney Carter ascended to heaven peacefully on May 31, 2026 surrounded by her family. Carolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory William F. Carter, husband; William Travis Carter and Jennifer (son and daughter-in-law); Caleb and Hannah, (grandchildren); Robert M. Putney and Rhonda Lee (brother and sister-in-law). Also, Richard and Karen Carter (brother-in-law and his wife) and Jerry Carter (brother-in-law).
Carolyn was born on May 11, 1951 in Prince Edward County, Virginia to Lucy B. Turlington and George W. Putney. She grew up in Richmond and graduated Huguenot High School in 1969. She attended college at Southern Seminary. She and William married on August 1, 1970 in Richmond and were ready to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary.
Carolyn was a dedicated employee of Library of Virginia, Virginia State Police, and Environmental Resources Management.
Along with sewing, reading, organizing and tending to flowers, Carolyn’s greatest joys came from her family, especially the laughter and smiles of her beloved grandchildren Caleb and Hannah.
Graveside services to be held Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 2 PM at the Westview Cemetery located at S. Main Street, Farmville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carolyn’s memory to the American Council of theBlind of Virginia, the American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice.
