Carol Senger Korynta, 71, of Newport News, Virginia passed away on July 24, 2023. Carol was born in Edenton, North Carolina on October 18, 1951, the middle daughter of John and Ann Senger. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Rick Korynta, sister Barbara Corry of Richmond, Virginia, and sister Brenda Cress of Roanoke, Virginia.
A lifelong learner, Carol earned her Doctorate in Education from the University of North Dakota in 1982 and went on to run educational enrichment programs and Gifted Student programs until illness forced her to retire in 1998. Some of her former students “her kids” have remained devoted friends with that close relationship extending to include their families.
Carol had a full life having lived and worked in 8 States from coast to coast and North and South including Virginia, Texas, Mississippi, California, North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, and Tennessee. She lived with her family for much of her formative years in San Jose, Costa Rica and graduated as Valedictorian from High School there just a month after turning 17. Two months later she started classes at Virginia Tech, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in the spring of 1972 as a devoted Hokie. Carol also had a great sense of devotion to this country and was proud to have served as an Electronics Technician in the U.S. Air Force before going on to earn her Doctoral degree. She was never idle so that even after she could no longer work in her profession she continued channeling her creativity, imagination and energy into quilting for juried craft shows and always thinking of how she could bring joy to others— often successfully!
Services will be held on August 3, at 1:00 pm at the Dunkum Funeral Home, 16923 Oak St., Dillwyn, Virginia, 23936. Interment will follow in the Arvonia Memorial Cemetery.
