It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Hurlbrink, a beloved mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend. Barbara left this world peacefully on
May 22, 2026, after a courageous and brief battle with lung cancer and other complications. She was 84
years old.
Born on March 4, 1942, in the charming town of Farmville, Virginia, Barbara was the daughter of the late
Luther Lawrence Newton and Janie Mae Newton (née Jamerson). She was the older sister to her late
brother, Lawrence Newton, and was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Frank Hurlbrink, and her
precious great-granddaughter, Adaline Savopoulos.
Barbara leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her
children, Keith Reardon (Sue), Kelly Reardon (Whitney), and Robyn Spicer (Steve), and her brother,
Linwood Newton. She was a proud grandmother to seven adoring grandchildren: Kane (Hannah),
Brittany (Matt), Kane, Keegan, McKenna, Kealey, Faith, and Brooke, as well as a doting great-
grandmother to Amelia and Archer. She was also was a loving and inspirational aunt to many nieces
and nephews.
Barbara’s professional life was marked by her dedication and passion for her work. She spent many
years as a salesperson with Clayton Homes in Farmville, where her warmth and charisma left a lasting
impression on colleagues and clients alike. Beyond her career, Barbara’s creative spirit found expression
in her love for interior design. She was the proud owner of Timberlane Interiors, a shop that she
nurtured both in Maryland and later in Dillwyn, Virginia, transforming countless spaces into beautiful,
welcoming homes.
A woman of many talents, Barbara was also an accomplished musician. Her love for music resonated
through her skillful piano playing and her heartfelt performances on the organ at her local church. She
played the clarinet as well. Her music brought joy and solace to many, echoing the grace and beauty she
embodied in life. She also loved to paint and draw. Barbara was an avid bowler and golfer.
Barbara’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Sentara Martha Jefferson
Hospital, UVA Medical Center and Albemarle Health and Rehab for their dedicated care and support
during her illness. Their kindness and professionalism provided great comfort to Barbara and her family
in her final days.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life on May 26, 2026, at Dunkum Funeral Home,
located at 16923 Oak Street, Dillwyn, VA. Beginning at 2 pm friends and family are welcome to pay
respects to Barbara. The service will begin at 3 pm and all who knew and loved Barbara are welcome
to attend and honor her memory. Interment will be held immediately after at Bethlehem Baptist
Church, 3808 Troublesome Creek Rd, Dillwyn, VA.
Barbara Hurlbrink will be remembered for her boundless love, unwavering strength, and the joy she
brought into the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of
her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
