Roy Roosevelt Ayers

Roy Roosevelt Ayers, 86, of Dillwyn passed peacefully on January 7, 2019.  He was born November 8, 1932 in Buckingham County, a son of the late James and Maggie LeSueur Ayers.  Roy was the husband of the late Mary Allen Ayers.

Roy retired from Froehling & Robertson with over 30 years of service. He then began Ayers & Ayers.  Roy was a hard worker and was continuously on the move, whether it be looking after his cattle, cutting, raking or baling hay, mowing the grass; working on fences or just driving his beloved Mary any place she wanted to go.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Margie A. Sams and her husband, Dave; grandsons, Joe Steinruck and his wife, Donna and Mason Steinruck and his wife, Trishi; step children, Richard Allen and his wife, Betty Jo, Gerri A. “Bug” Harris and Carl “Bo” Allen and his wife, Mary;  sister, Minnie McDaniel;  9 step- grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; grandson, Mike Steinruck; stepdaughter, Doris Harris and her husband, Al; sons-in-law, Ernest Harris and Bobby Steinruck and daughter-in-law Mary Rucker Allen; three brothers,  Travis, Jack and Andrew Ayers and five sisters, Ruby Martin, Mary Simons,  Virginia Burgess, Katie Skubon and Lottie Thomas.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Rocky Mounty United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
