John Robert Meek, Jr.

John R. Meek Jr., 87, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 29, 2019. Born on December 27, 1932 in Burkes Garden, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Robert Meek Sr. and Anna Davis Meek.

On November 25, 1956, he married the love of his life, Beulah Forbes Meek. Together they were blessed with three children and four grandchildren.  In 1960, he moved his family from Farmville, Virginia to Virginia Beach, Virginia. His love of F-14 and A-6 airplanes led him to a career at the Naval Aviation Depot Facility NAS Norfolk until his retirement in 1993. His love of the country-life led he and his wife back to Buckingham County, Virginia. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beulah Forbes Meek; son, Chuck Meek (Julia); daughter, Susan Moore (William); grandchildren John Moore, Morgan Meek (Nicole), Rachel Meek Herndon (Dustin), and Joshua Meek; sister Jean Reed (Frank) and brothers Jerry Meek, Jim Meek (Patricia), a beloved sister-in-law Audrey Mann, and many dearly-loved nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Brenda Gayle Meek; sisters Anna Meek, Dorothy Eppes, Evelyn Jennings, and brother Bill Meek.

Funeral services will be held on January 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
