James Alton Barnett

James Alton (Jim) Barnett, 86, of Palmyra passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 25, 2018. He is survived by one son, Sonny Barnett, five daughters, Patsy Treakle, Linda Breeden, Brenda Mejia, Jane Hamilton and Stephanie Palmer, and one stepson Steve Frazier. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Rosa Barnett.

Jim was a member of the Faith Fellowship Church of New Canton and worked the latter part of his career as a roofer throughout the Palmyra area. Perhaps though, Jim is best remembered as the man sitting on his front porch, in his swing waving to cars and observing the world. Seeing it all through the eyes of his time and heart of one who so greatly missed his wife sitting beside him and sharing with her the stories of days gone by.

The funeral service will be conducted at Calvary Baptist Church of New Canton on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 12 PM with interment in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral in the sanctuary of Calvary Baptist Church.
