Grace Murphy Martin

Grace Murphy Martin, age 79, of Dillwyn passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018.  “Grannie,” as Grace was affectionately known, was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  

Grace was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray.  Ray and Grace were married for over 61 years prior to his passing just three months ago in August.

Grace was a “people person” and made many friends while working in the Farmville area.  After her retirement she missed “the people” so she began working at Dunkum Funeral Home.  Her loving and kind spirit made her the perfect person to comfort those who were grieving.

Grace is survived by her children, Dolores Massie and husband, Johnny and Tony Martin and wife, Rebecca; grandchildren Amanda Massie-Cox and husband, Grady, Stockton Ray Massie and wife, Karmen, Caroline Joyce Martin and Emerson Ray Martin; great-granddaughters, Autumn Michelle Cox, Bonnie Grace Massie and due to arrive in two weeks, Savannah Elizabeth Cox; sister, Betty Jo Barnette and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband, Grace was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Murphy and sister, Elizabeth Ownby.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Jones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Cumberland.  The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m.
