Wayne Davenport Obituary

Wayne Durham Davenport, 78, of Dillwyn went to be with his “Best Friend JESUS” on April 11, 2024 at his home.

He was born on February 14, 1946 to Lillian and Llewellyn Davenport.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters: Steve (Pat), Ray (Dee), Jimmy (Jackie), Frank (Mary), Billy (Carol), Howard (Linda) and Julian; Eve Grimsley (Grimp), Martha Pollock (Jim), Ruth Brewer (John) and Julia Adcock (Buford)

Wayne is survived by one brother, L. H., Jr.; his loving wife of 57 years, Elaine “Temp” Davenport; daughters, Theresa Gough (Bill), Toni Lusk, Tammy Hunt (Chris) and ten grandchildren, Rachel (John), Jessica (Jeffrey) Kelly (Steven) Savannah, Harley (Kalie), Leandra (Scott), Jacob (Mackenzie), Taylor (Fletcher), Tyler (Christin), and Crista; eight great-grandchildren, Presten, Brayden, Brooklyn (Alex), Briar, Lilah, Cameron, Paxton and Porter and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.

Wayne was the co-founder and President of Ministry – Spreading God’s Gifts which was a love of his heart. A member of the Christian Fellowship Organization.

He was a member of Browns Chapel for the past 60 years and served as deacon, trustee and caretaker of the cemetery.

Wayne served our country in the United States Air Force. He was a Gideon for the past 25 years.

Wayne loved and served the Lord and wanted everyone to accept the Lord and have a personal relationship with Him. 

For the last months of his life Wayne shared how he couldn’t wait to get to heaven with his “Best Friend Jesus.”

A special thanks to Hospice of Virginia staff, his favorite R.N., Taylor Bowles and most loving aide Cora Bartee.

Services will be held at Browns Chapel on Sunday, April 14, 2024.  Visitation will be 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. A meal will follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to Browns Chapel Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated.
