TERRELL, William Winfrey Layne Sr., was born at home to Joseph Stuart Sr. and Roberta Winfrey Terrell on February 9, 1919 in Providence Forge, Va. and went to be with the Lord, his Savior, on Thursday, December 29, 2016. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Lillian "Cebie" Shelton, who passed away on December 30, 2011. He is survived by their three children, Mary Earhart (Joe), William Terrell Jr. (Jana) and Martha Hebert (John); his grandchildren, Joe Jr. (Michael), William, Clayton, Ian (Lindsey), Hannah (Sarah), Carla, Graham (Sara), Kara and Ashley; and six great-grandchildren, Nataly, Isadora, Beatrix, Kaleb, Charlotte and Amelia. Bill was preceded in death by his two brothers, Colonel Joseph Jr. and Rossner Terrell; and his sister, Roberta Jarvis. He was 97 years old or "almost 100" as he liked to say. Bill's family moved to Buckner, Va. in 1920 and lived in the apartment above Terrell's General Store, which they owned and operated. The store became a source for a lifetime of good memories for our father. He attended both VPI and Lynchburg College and graduated in 1943. He worked at N&W at Central Station in Petersburg and the U.S. Employment Service. He and Cebie moved to Buckingham in 1956, where he managed the Dillwyn Westvaco Woodyard from October that year until February 1981. He was honest and fair, and highly regarded by all that he worked with. Bill was a steadfast member of the Maysville Presbyterian Church in Buckingham, Va. He was also a member of the Murray Masonic Lodge #175 in Mineral for 65 years. Our father was the cornerstone of our family foundation. He was dedicated to God and his family. He was "extra" smart and "extra" kind. He had a Santa Claus laugh (all year 'round) and was a blessing to all who had the good fortune of knowing him. We will love and miss him, and his hugs, forever. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Maysville Presbyterian Church, followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Hospital, 2924 Brook Rd., Richmond, Va. 23220, where our father spent time after a childhood accident.
