Martha G. Holman Clayton, 90, of New Canton passed away peacefully on November 15, 2016.  She was born September 22, 1926 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Elijah Hanes and Lizzie Pearl Gary.  She was a member of the Welcome Wesleyan Church in New Canton.  She was a retired circulation clerk for Media General.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Clayton and by her first husband, Willie R. Holman.  She is survived by her children, a daughter, Charlotte H. Davis and her beloved son, William H. “Billy” Holman; two grandsons, Bret A. Poore and girlfriend, Abbey and Lonnie E. Poore and wife, Dena; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Counterman-Jobb and husband, Eric and Stewart Allen Poore, and three great-great grandchildren, Landon, McKenzie and Aiden Counterman-Jobb; niece, Gertrude Patteson and step-great granddaughter, Samantha Bailey.  She was also survived by special friends, Windi and Thomas Payne, Patricia and Paul Litton;  June and Lynn Woodcock. Graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Welcome Wesleyan Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the church prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Welcome Wesleyan Church.
