John Loy Ownby, Jr., 92, of Cumberland, died February 5, 2017.  He was born May 24, 1924 in Tennessee, a son of the late John Loy and Pearl Wolfe Ownby.  He was a retired farmer. 

He is survived by his sister, Mildred Craddock (Granville); sister-in-law, Lavern Ownby and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Murphy Ownby and four brothers, Fred Ownby, Clyde Ownby, A. E. “Gene” Ownby and Gordon Ownby.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Cumberland, with interment in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
