John Ernest Harris, 77, of Charles City died September 5, 2016.  He was born November 9, 1938 in Buckingham County, a son of the late Robert and Therie Newton Harris.  He was an employee for many years with the J. L. Culpeper Distributing and later was employed by Ukrop’s Supermarkets.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Violet (Gerri) Allen Harris; two sons, Wayne Harris and his special friend, Mildred and Dwayne Harris and his wife, Helen; granddaughter, Allyson Sands and four sisters, Frances Lester, Katie Burnette, Christine Thomas and husband Raymond and Anita French and husband, Hugh; close friends Frank and Dot Rogers and many other loving family and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by twin infant brothers, brother,  Alfred Harris and his wife, Doris, and brother, Hamilton (Bone) Harris

Funeral services will be held September 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Cedar Baptist Church Cemetery.  Family will receive friends September 8, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
