Edna Mae "Dinkey" Sharpe Smith, 71, of New Canton, died August 19, 2017 at her home.  She was born April 27, 1946, a daughter of the late Walter Minnis Sharpe and Virginia Harris Sharpe.  She was the widow of James Ernest Smith, Sr.

Edna is survived by four sons, Kenneth Wayne Smith, James Ernest Smith, Jr.  and his wife, Linda of New Canton, Terry Lee Smith and his wife, Kim of Dillwyn and Walter Eugene Smith and his wife, Tammie of New Canton; her sister, Alice Sharpe Bell and her husband, Dana; her uncle, Luther “Sonny” Harris and his wife Nancy of Cumberland; four grandchildren, James Allen Smith, Ashley Nicole Smith, Justin Lee Smith and Elizabeth Ann Smith and two great-granddaughters, Peyton Nicole Jones and Lily Rose Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Buckingham Baptist Church, Gold Hill, with interment in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham County Rescue Squad or the Arvonia Fire Department.
