Clarence V. Herndon, Jr., 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 after an extended illness.  He was born November 14, 1927.  Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruth Herndon, Sr. and brother, Robert Herndon.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathleen B. Herndon; step-daughters, Sheila Mozingo (Harry) and Kathy Peaslee (Bob); step-son, Doyce Powell; three sisters, Martha Thompson, Carrie O’Neal  (Michael) and Frances Ducsai; one brother, Aubrey Herndon (Ann); sister-in-law, Rose Herndon; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Junior was a retired Navy chief of 30 years, was active in his church and most of all, he loved his family.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Buckingham Baptist Church, Gold Hill, with interment in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday, May 8th from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.

The family invites everyone to the church fellowship hall for a time of food and fellowship following the service.
